Baku Marathon 2025

Central Asia&rsquo;s largest running event hosted over 16,000 participants, including of athletes from the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs.

ALMATY, Kazakhstan &mdash; Last Sunday, Kazakhstan&rsquo;s southern capital once again became the focal point for the global running community. The 14th Almaty Marathon reaffirmed its status as a vibrant celebration of sport, delivering new records and unforgettable emotions to participants and fans alike.

A total of 16,149 runners from around the world took to the starting line. The scale of the event was highlighted by its diverse geography: 1,363 international athletes from 60 countries joined the marathon. Leading the international field were representatives from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and China. This marks an all-time record for the number of international guests in the history of the Almaty Marathon.

Participation of TAN Athletes

Participants of the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs (TAN) series held a special place in the starting lineup, with 54 Alliance marathoners taking on the course.

For these athletes, the Almaty race was more than just a competition; it was a continuation of their grand running journey across the Turkic world. Each finish brings them closer to earning the series&#39; unique commemorative medal, symbolizing the unity, sporting spirit, and cultural bond of our nations. The Almaty Marathon served as a vital stage, allowing them to test their limits on one of the region&#39;s most scenic routes.

Sporting Achievements

Another record was set on the main course: 1,500 athletes tackled the full 42.2 km marathon distance. Elite athletes battled for the top spots, etching their names into the race&#39;s history:

Turkistan Marathon Hosts 3,000 Runners as Part of the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs

 
 
TURKISTAN &mdash; On October 26, the spiritual capital of the Turkic world hosted the fourth annual Turkistan Marathon, bringing together 3,000 participants on its historic streets.

This year&rsquo;s event saw a significant rise in international interest, with 365 foreign athletes joining the race&mdash;accounting for over 12% of the total field.

While the majority of runners arrived from cities across Kazakhstan (2,094), the event was truly inclusive. Notably, the field included the event&#39;s oldest participant, 91-year-old Salikha Zigangerova from Shchuchinsk, proving that passion for sport knows no age limits.

In terms of international representation, neighboring nations led the way: Kyrgyzstan (147), Uzbekistan (109), and Russia (72). The marathon also welcomed athletes from the Asia-Pacific region (12), Europe (16), North and Latin America (4), Africa (3), and the Middle East (2), underscoring the event&#39;s growing global appeal.

Distances and Certification Athletes competed across multiple distances: the full marathon (42.2 km), half marathon (21.1 km), 10 km, 10 km Nordic walking, and a 3 km fun run for children aged 10&ndash;14.

The Turkistan Marathon maintains high professional standards; its results are recognized internationally thanks to official certification by World Athletics and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

New Course Records This year was momentous for elite performance, with three major course records shattered by athletes from Uzbekistan:

A Key Stage of the TAN Series Earlier this year, the Turkistan Marathon officially joined the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs (TAN), the first series of long-distance races dedicated to the Turkic world.

Thirty-five TAN marathoners participated in the race, continuing their running journey across the region. Athletes who successfully complete five TAN races will be awarded a unique medal, securing not just a collector&rsquo;s item, but memories to last a lifetime.

SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan &mdash; On November 9, 2025, ancient Samarkand reaffirmed its status as the Pearl of the East. The Samarkand Marathon is not merely a sporting competition but a unique cultural experience, allowing participants to touch the great heritage of the Silk Road.

This year, the event reached a truly grand scale: nearly 9,000 people took to the starting line. Traditionally, the race enjoys immense popularity among runners from Russia and CIS countries, drawn by the blend of local color, hospitality, and ideal autumn weather.

A Decisive Stage for the TAN Series

Special attention was focused on the participants of the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs (TAN). Eighty-four Alliance marathoners, continuing their journey through the Turkic world, took to the start in Samarkand.

For many of them, this race marked the culmination of the season. Twenty-two athletes officially completed the full 2025 TAN Series right here in Samarkand. These athletes successfully navigated the necessary stages across different Alliance countries and will now receive the unique series finisher medal&mdash;a symbol of the resilience and unity of Turkic peoples.

A Route Through Eternity

The start-finish village was located in the very heart of the city&mdash;next to the majestic Registan Square. Athletes were welcomed by the ensemble of three legendary madrasahs: Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor, and Tilya-Kori.

The course&mdash;featuring distances of 42.2 km, 21.1 km, 10 km, 5 km, 2 km, and Nordic walking&mdash;wound through the streets of the Old City. Participants ran against a backdrop of ancient mosques, turquoise domes, and historical monuments, turning the competition into a breathtaking sightseeing tour on the run.

Running with Purpose

The Samarkand Marathon maintains its vital charitable mission. All funds raised during the 2025 event will be directed toward creating an inclusive environment in cultural facilities. The goal is to purchase special equipment to adapt museums for visually impaired and blind visitors, making art and history accessible to everyone.
